Creamy Whipped Goat Cheese Dip with Honey and Herbs

This Creamy Whipped Goat Cheese Dip with Honey and Herbs was inspired by yet another restaurant, Napa on Providence, and I fell in love with it at first bite. Of course, I tweaked it to make it easy and seasonal for you to enjoy! The creamy goat cheese is whipped together to create a beautiful texture and combined with raw honey and fresh sage, then garnished with sliced almonds and a few grilled pears. It comes together in just a few minutes, and it will no doubt impress your guests. I cannot sing its praises enough, and if I do say so myself, it might be as good, if not better, than the restaurant version. A true chef’s kiss, and I know you’ll love it!

How to Make Creamy Whipped Goat Cheese with Honey & Herbs

Ingredients:

  • 1 10.5 oz. Goat Cheese Log
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Sage or herb of choice, chopped (thyme, rosemary or parsley work well too)
  • Slivered almonds for garnish (optional)
  • 1/2 Pear, sliced and grilled (optional)

Equipment:

Instructions:

  1. On your cutting board, chop the sage or the fresh herb you’re using.
  2. Place the goat cheese log, honey and the sage into the bowl of a food processor.
  3. Process on high speed until combined and creamy, about 3-4 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides.
  4. Transfer the cheese mixture from the food processor to a serving bowl.
  5. Smooth out the top with your spatula. Garnish with sliced almonds and a few pieces of grilled pear and serve with toasted crostini bread.

Pro Tips

#1 Use room temperature goat cheese. Softened goat cheese whips up easier so let it get to about room temperature before beginning.

#2 If the mixture becomes too soft while processing, I like to pop it in the refrigerator for a few minutes before serving. Be careful not to chill it so much that it gets stiff. The dip is best served at room temperature or slightly chilled.

#3 If the cheese mixture is too stiff, try adding just a touch of milk or olive oil to loosen it up. But be careful, it doesn’t take much to make it too runny!

#4 Serve with crusty bread or offer an assortment of crackers, fresh veggies or fresh fruit.

Recipe Riffs & Swap

Typically, I like to offer a few variations or substitutions, but with this recipe, I think if you change any ingredients, it becomes a different recipe. The only thing I might try next time is swapping the honey for hot honey, specifically, Nate’s hot honey, because I know it is mild and subtle. Otherwise, I think the recipe is best as is.

You can swap the almonds for another nut of your choice. And adding a fruit, choose something seasonal. I ordered this in the summertime and it was served with grilled peaches. I would stick to a less sweet fruit like pears, apples or peaches rather than berries. You can also forgo the nuts and the fruit if you prefer, and the dip is still delicious on its own!

Freezing & Storing Leftovers

Freezing: It’s best enjoyed fresh, but the dip can be frozen in an airtight container for up to one month. Thaw overnight in the fridge and stir well. The texture may not be as fluffy.

Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir before serving, and add more honey or herbs if needed.

Extra FAQs

Can I make this dip ahead of time? Yes, prepare a few hours ahead and refrigerate. Let it come to room temperature, or close, before serving.

What other cheeses can I use if I don’t like goat cheese? Cream cheese or ricotta would be the best substitution, but it will change the taste and you will also need to adjust the herbs and honey by tasting as you go.

Is this dip suitable for a vegan diet? No, not as-is. You could try a vegan cheese substitute, but I could not guarantee it would turn out the same.

Can I use dried herbs instead of fresh? Fresh herbs are best, but if using dried, start with less than a tablespoon, then taste and adjust.

How long does this dip keep in the fridge? For peak freshness, it’s best within 3 days.
