Restaurant Review: Leon’s Oyster Shop in Charleston

Leon’s Oyster Shop in Charleston, SC
One of my favorite stops whenever we’re in the Holy City is Leon’s Oyster Shop! It’s always the place that we plan our arrival around. Charleston is roughly three hours from Charlotte so if we can plan to leave by 8 am we will be pulling up right around opening time.
Leon’s is located at 698 King Street, Charleston, South Carolina, and is open 7 days a week from 11 am to 10 pm. Whether you’re swinging by for a beer with a friend or celebrating an event with a group, you can’t go wrong with the chill vibe and delicious food. When you’re at Leon’s you’re just happy, period!
Atmosphere & Decor
What makes Leon’s so special is somehow the casual, rustic vibe feels elevated, like you just know this restaurant is the place to be. You could be dropping in for brunch after a long night out on King Street or attending a bridal shower. Everyone wants a seat at Leon’s on a sunny spring afternoon!

Food
Come for the oysters and stay for the vibe! But also order the hushpuppies, fried brussels, crispy shrimp roll, and soft serve. Seriously, you can’t go wrong. Leon’s is also known for their fried chicken and I can attest to the chicken sandwich.
Drinks
Y’all, the drink list is extensive! Rosé on tap and frozen G&T’s, yes please! I ordered the Elder 75 and it was excellent, classic, and refreshing. The local craft beer list is on point too. Really, what’s not to love?

Recommendations
Leon’s is great for a group gathering or Sunday lunch! You can book a reservation for a group of 6 or more, but all other tables are for walk-ins. If you go at a busy time, especially when the weather is perfect, expect to wait a bit, but don’t worry, it’s Charleston. Totally worth it! Grab a drink, take a seat in the sun, and watch the passersby while you wait for your table.
Make sure to take advantage of the large outdoor patio whenever you can, spring and fall are best IMO! The eclectic outdoor space sits right along the sidewalk of King Street – it really is a vibe!
Leon’s Oyster Shop is a Charleston staple and a must-visit spot when in town. We highly recommend!
